Zoo
Description: Habitat one: Historic Hill: There were 5 moneys that were in the exitbit. Trees, ropes, moneky beds, grass, and small plants were part of their habitat. The mokey species ranged from chimpanzees, lemurs, spider monkey, and gorillas. They were feeding them sunflower seeds and lettuce. Most of the monkeys were haning out in the shade beacuse of the heat.
Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Primates Family: Cebidae Genus: Saimiri
The Squirrel Monkey:Squirrel monkeys have a slender build with a short greyish dense coat. The ears, throat, head, back and legs are yellow to grey-green and the other parts are yellow to white. The face is white. The squirrel monkey has a tail that often curls over its shoulder when it is resting. Squirrel monkeys have thirty-six teeth; males have large upper canine teeth. Squirrel monkeys have nails instead of claws. They have been called 'small, nervous primates' as they are the smallest of the primate family Cebidae; they weigh about one to three pounds. The length of its body is nine to nineteen inches. Its tail is about fourteen to nineteen inches long.
Behavior: interactions between the various age/sex classes are most frequently directed to adult females. They jump around when they get excited towards the females.
Habitiat two: Rivers Edge: Penguin exibit, The temperature was very cold. They were feeding the penguins raw fish so the smell wasnt the best. There was a large pool of cold water with 30 penguins surronding them with rocks. Puffins were also in the exibit. Kingdom - Animalia
Phylum - Chordata
Sub - Phylum - Vertebrata
Class - Aves
Order - Ciconiiformes
Family - Spheniscidae
Genus - Aptenodytes, Pygoscelis, Eudyptes, Megadyptes, Eudyptula, Spheniscus (6 Genera)
All penguins have a white belly and a dark (mostly black) back. Penguins cannot fly, but they can swim very well, because their wings have turned into flippers. They cant fly because their wings are stif and small. They have good hearing and can see underwaterr. The white and black colors are for camoflauge (to help them hide) when they swim. So, when a predator looking from underwater sees the white belly and wings of the penguin, they can not see it well with the light coming from above. Also, from above, the penguin's black backs can not be seen well in the dark water. The biggest penguins may stand nearly 4 feet tall and can weigh almost 100 pounds. The smallest kinds are only about one foot tall. Penguins also have a thick layer of blubber that helps them keep warm, and their feathers are very tightly packed to make another cover. They also have a layer of woolly down under the feathers that are coated with a type of oil that makes them waterproof.
Behavior:Penguins may swim and feed in groups, but some may be solitary when diving for food. Emperor penguins have been observed feeding in groups with coordinated diving. During the breeding season penguins come ashore and nest in huge colonies called rookeries. Some rookeries include hundreds of thousands of penguins and cover hundreds of square kilometers.
Habitat three: Rivers edge, the elephant exibit. in The elephant habitat had trees, small plants, and a waterfall that had fresh water for the elephants. There was alot of room for them to roam aroud. 2 elephants and one baby asian elephants. Kingdom: Animalia
Scientific name: loxodnta africana

These unique mammals have large tusks, the tusks are their second upper incisors; in humans the equivalent would be our second front set of teeth! Both the male and female African elephants have tusks which can reach sizes of up to 3 metres. Their tusks are useful in a number of different ways: primarily they are used for digging and carving into trees (such as puncturing the baobab trees to feed on the pulp inside). Secondly the tusks are often used to debark trees; the elephants do this to mark their territory to other elephants. Their ears may also be up to a metre (3-4 feet) long, apart from helping the elephant to hear they can be used as their own personal fan. In hot weather they flap their ears which provides a breeze to cool them and dissipate heat.
Behavior:Adult male elephants are solitary in nature but may associate with other bulls (adult males) in small, unstable groups. Males will leave the family unit (natal unit) between 12 and 15 years of age. The adult elephant was following around the baby elephant, helping it get water.
I learned alot from going to the zoo. It helped us study differnt habitats and how these animals actually act in real life. It also helped me with my website by learning more about my animal in person. http://www.stlzoo.org
